Crescent Moon Photos of 1 Rajab 1444 Hijri

The evening of Sunday, 22 January 2023 CE will be the day of moon sighting (rukyatul hilal or rukyet-e hilal) for some of us who keep the islamic calendar in harmony with the moon cycles. Hopefully, the moon will be sighted some where on the globe this evening and we can have some photos of the first crescent moon of Rajab 1444 AH. As there will be a good chance of positive sighting this evening, we can expect that we will have some photos of the hilaal of 1 Rajab 1444 AH soon.

This page will be updated as soon as we received moon sighting reports from some places and obtain some photos of the crescent moon of 1 Rajab 1444 Hijri. So, please visit this page regularly for current update.

Crescent Moon Photos of Rajab 1444 AH Taken on Sunday

A first report on moon sighting for Rajab 1444 AH came from Abu Dhabi, where Moh. Odeh managed to image the very thin crescent moon under bright day light. On Sunday morning, at 10:30 local time, a CCD imaging of the moon successfully capture the crescent moon that otherwise invisible to human eye.

Please note, such image – taken to capture the invisible moon before the sunset on that day – is considered as non-proof for moon sighting by those who adhere to traditional naked-eye sighting of the moon to begin the islamic calendar.

From Marocco, we a have a report that the crescent moon of 1 Rajab 1444 AH was sighted by naked eye and can be photographed. The photo – by Annas Hammouri – of the crescent is below:

Meanwhile, from Saudi Arabia, Mr Ahmad Aljahni, was able to photograph the crescent moon using CCD-imaging technique after sunset local time. The crescent was not sighted using naked eye.

Other positive results of moon sighting on Sunday come from Indonesia, South Africa, Guyana, Trinidad and Palestine. The crescent moon should be more easily visible from the American continent too. Negative results were received from Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and the UK.

Based on these result, by global moon sighting criterion, 1 Rajab 1444 AH corresponds to Monday, 23 January 2023 CE. This moon sighting or rukyet-e hilal result also match closely with the previously published cescent moon visibility map of Rajab 1444 AH.

May Allah bless us in this sacred month of Rajab.
