The thin crescent moon or hilaal, that marks the start of the New Islamic Hijri Year 1442 or 1 Muharram 1442 AH has been sighted from many places on the evening of Wednesday, 19 August 2020 CE. Therefore, 1 Muharram 1442 AH corresponds to Thursday, 20 August 2020. Below is a photo of the crescent moon sighted in Dallas, US.

Other moon sighting attempts from eastern part of the world have not produced any crescent moon photos so far.
