Dear readers, in this post we will share some photos of the first crescent moon for the month of Jumadal Akhirah 1445 AH. As previously noted in our post: When does 1 Jumadal Akhirah 1445 start, the hilaal or crescent moon won’t be visible on the evening of Wednesday, 13 Dec 2023 for most part of the world except from South America.
Yet, we have received a crescent moon photo from South Africa, from the city of Laudium, Gauteng, that shows the thin crescent moon against the still bright orange sky. It was photographed on Wednesday evening there and was visible for several minutes without optical aid. Below is the photograph of the first crescent moon of 1 Jumadal Akhirah 1445 AH from South Africa visible on 13 December 2023.
In the crescent moon visibility map for Jumadal Akhirah 1445 AH, South Africa lies on the region where moon can be sighted using optical aids based on Odeh’s criterion. So, the report above is justified scientifically.
As a result, based on global moon sighting, 1 Jumadal Akhirah 1445 AH corresponds to Thursday, 14 December 2023. See also: Global Islamic Calendar 2023.
We are still waiting for other moon sighting reports, especially, from South America where the moon should be easily visible by naked eye.
