The islamic new year, the year 1445 after hijra (1445 AH), is upon us. Some countries start 1 Muharram 1445 AH on Wednesday, some others on Thursday. Some started using calculated calendar, others after moon sighting. But here we have several photos of the crescent moon (hilal) of the islamic new year photographed on Tuesday evening local times, making 1 Muharram 1445 AH corresponds to Wednesday, 19 July 2023 by global moon sighting.
First positive report of hilal sighting was from Indonesia where locals claimed to see the crescent moon of 1 Muharram 1445 AH on Tuesday evening. A CCD photograph of the moon was circulated showing vague outline of the very thin crescent moon. Below is the picture:
Similar photo of the crescent moon was also obtained from Selangor, Malaysia.
More positive reports were received on Tuesday from the Middle East and North Africa. Here are crescent moon photos of 1 Muharram 1445 AH from Jordan and Morocco.
From Basra, Turkiye, a photograph of the crescent moon of Muharram 1445 AH was also taken on Tuesday evening.
From Palestine, we obtain a photograph of the crescent moon of 1 Muharram 1445 AH as seen from a telescope.
And from the North America, the crescent moon was easily visible by naked eyes on Tuesday evening. Below is a snapshot of the crescent moon of Muharram 1445 AH from there:
