The month of Hajj in the islamic calendar known as Dhul-Hijjah this year – 1443 AH – has been announced to start on Thursday, 30 June 2022 by the Saudi Arabia’s authority based on “claimed” sighting of the crescent moon in the region. However, there was no photo of the moon to back the statement. Some experts in astronomy even state that it is impossible to sight the moon by eyes in the region.
Negative reports of moon sighting were also announced from much of the Asia, Africa and Australia continents.
Reliable positive crescent moon sightings were reported from the Caribbean, Trinidad and Guyana in the Central America. However, we have not received any moon photos, yet.
We just received a photograph of the slender crescent moon of 1 Dhul-Hijjah 1443 AH from California, USA. Youssef Ismail captured the thin hilal on the evening of Wednesday, 29 June 2022 local time.
This photograph and sighting reports from the American continent confirmed that 1 Dhul-Hijjah 1443 AH falls on Thursday, 30 June 2022 based on global moon sighting.
