One of the nationally recognised islamic organisation in Australia, ANIC or Australian National Imam Council has released a statement regarding the date of Eid-ul-Fitr or the Festival of Breaking the Fast of Ramadan for this year. The Eid is on 1 Shawal 1443 AH that falls on Monday, 2 May 2022. The Australian Fatwa Council of ANIC states in its statement that the young moon of Shawal will be above the horizon across Australia after sunset on Sunday evening 1 May 2022. The moon will be in the sky for sometimes thus marking the start of 1 Shawal 1443 AH.

It should be noted that ANIC has adopted the calculated position of the moon to decide on which day the new islamic lunar months of Ramadan and Shawal will begin. As such, the crescent moon will not necessarily be visible on the mentioned dates from Australia. Based on crescent visibility map for Shawal 1443 AH the crescent moon will only be visible on the evening of 2nd May 2022.
