Saudi Arabia: Ramadan 1435 Starts 29 June 2014

The Saudi Arabia authorities has made decision, and this time seems to be based on reliable reports of moon sightings. They said that no report was heard of sighting the new crescent moon of Ramadan on the evening of Friday, 27 June 2014. Hence, Ramadan starts Sunday, 29 June 2014.

Below is a copy of the statement as reported by SPA News Agency of the Saudi Arabia:

The Royal Court announced this evening that a report from the Higher Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is assigned to determine whether Muslims in Saudi Arabia could start fasting or otherwise, has decided that the fasting month of Ramadan this year 1435 H. will start on Sunday.

A statement of the Royal Court cited the Higher court which held a meeting in Taif this evening to review the reports of other regional courts on the moon sightseeing as saying that the reports unanimously agreed that the crescent of the coming month of Ramadan was not sight seen anywhere in the Kingdom this evening, meaning that the month of Sha’abn this year will be completed to 30 days.
Accordingly, the fasting month of Ramadan this year 1435 H. will start on Sunday corresponding to June 29, 2014, the Higher Court’s statement said.

Concluding its statement, the Higher Court congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, his Crown Prince, the Deputy Crown Prince, the government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the expatriates on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, wishing everybody an easy fasting and forgiven sins.
