Alhamdulillaah, the month of Rajab 1433 AH has been passing out and will soon be replaced with the month of Sha’ban. Because the islamic calendar is based on moon movement then the entry into new month is determined by when the crescent moon will be visible.
The astronomical new moon for Sha’ban occurs at 15:02 UT on 19 June 2012. Almost all regions in the world will not be able to see crescent moon on the evening on that day. It is in the following evening, Wednesday, 20 June 2012 that the hilal or youngest crescent moon will be easier to spot.
Based on this calculated visibility map of the crescent moon, the month of Shaban 1433 AH will begin on Thursday, 21 June 2012. It is predicted this month will be 29 days in length so that Ramadhan this year will start on Friday, 20 July 2012.
