Sharjah Planetarium in United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that Ramadan 1435 AH will begin on Sunday, 29 June 2014. It is based on astronomical calculation of the position of the crescent moon locally. It added that Eid-ul-Fitr or 1 Shawwal 1435 AH is on 28 July 2014.
Astronomers said the crescent moon of the holy month will appear on Friday, June 27 at 12.08am. The sun will set that day at 7.12pm, reported WAM, the state news agency. Sharjah Planetarium said that the New Moon of Shawwal 1435 AH will be on Sunday, July 27th, 2014, at 2:42 (local time) for the UAE. Therefore, Monday, July 28th, 2014, will be the start of Eid al-Fitr and the lunar month of Shawwal.
It would be long fasting days this Ramadan because it is still in summer that begins 21 June. The planetarium calculated that the fasting period will amount to about 15 hours. It would also be a hot summer with temperature around 43 degrees centigrade.
